LEGO has been making some impressive animal sets for the Creator 3-in-1 theme lately, and this one may be the best yet. The giraffe, gazelles, and lion models are all display-worthy and it can be hard to decide which build to keep.
Disclaimer: LEGO sent this set to me to review on BrickCentral but all opinions are my own.
Giraffe
My favorite build of the three is easily the main model, the giraffe. The building experience was great– I love how all the little details like the microphones for eyes came together– and the final model has quite a bit of articulation in the head, neck, legs, hooves, and tail.
The aesthetic is top-notch and the designers did an amazing job covering up the leg joints with vehicle roof parts.
The giraffe is quite imposing at 14.5 in. (30 cm) high. It’s not minifig-scale—none of these models are—but that didn’t stop me from trying. I brought along a modified Safari Off-Roader 60267 for the photo shoot to see if I could get some fun photos of them together.
Gazelles
My next favorite model is the third one, the gazelles. The mom gazelle has a poseable head, legs, and hooves while the baby only has a rotatable head–left and right– and moveable legs using Mixels joints.
The light bley leg joint on the mom’s front left leg is more visible than on the right side but it’s not too distracting.
Lion
The other alternative model in the Wild Safari Animals set is the lion with a poseable head, legs, paws, and tail. But you can’t get this into a typical “lion lounge” pose so that’s a big bummer.
There are some interesting building techniques used on the head– those killer eyes are the same part used for the giraffe’s ears, for example– and that makes the lion worth building.
Wild about Animals
Overall, the Wild Safari Animals 31150 is a fantastic set with at least 2 great models to display. At 64.99€/$64.99/£59.99, it’s great value too. Building and rebuilding is fun so not only is affordable, there’s lots of replay value.
For LEGO toy photographers, you get three subjects in one! Win! This an amusing set to shoot and offers a refreshing break from typical minifig-scale models. Compared to minifigs and buildings, it’s much easier to stand these animals on any surface too.
The Wild Safari Animals 31150 set is available now on LEGO.com and other stores.
