Every month, we pick a LEGO photographer active in our community and share some of their work and a little about themselves. This month we flight to Germany to meet the.brick.sorcerer!

Hello everyone, my name is Cihan and I’m from Germany.

I discovered minifigure photography by chance during the pandemic, and it quickly turned into a true passion. At the time, I hadn’t touched a LEGO brick or minifigure in years.

I’d describe my photographic style as cinematic, as I strive to make my images feel like scenes from a movie. I place great importance on capturing everything in-camera using practical effects, with minimal digital manipulation.

My favorite themes include movie-inspired scenes, dark fantasy, action, Batman, and Star Wars.

I shoot with a Sony a6400 and a 16–50mm lens, which gives me flexibility and allows for wide-angle compositions. I use various LED lights and a small fog machine to create atmosphere. Most importantly, I build custom dioramas and miniature sets that bring each idea to life.

My creative process usually begins with a clear vision of the scene in my mind. From there, I build a suitable diorama or landscape—many of which I reuse with slight modifications for different shoots.
Then I arrange the minifigures and props, carefully setting the stage.

The final and most crucial step is lighting, which I fine-tune through a series of test shots until everything feels just right.

The exclusive photo

With this particular image, I wanted to create a dark fantasy scene that leaves the viewer wondering: Who is this knight? What is his mission? Why is he wandering through this forest?

And of course, I aimed to make the scene feel like a frame from a film—through a blend of natural and artificial lighting.
