Every month, we pick a LEGO photographer active in our community and share some of their work and a little about themselves. This month we flight to Italy to meet brickphotographer_kim_

Hello, my name is Kim, and I am from South Korea.

I’m a graduate student in the Department of Art History in Korea, and I’m studying Korean Stone Pagoda. History Taking the LEGO photography is my hobby!
I’ve been collecting Lego since I was 12, in 2012. When I was young, LEGO was only a toy to me. Then, I started social media in 2022 and I found some amazing LEGO photos there!
So I decided to take pictures with my LEGO(especially minifigures).

So I started taking some LEGO photos in flower gardens, parks, beach etc. And in 2022, I bought a DSLR camera and started taking pictures in earnest.

I travel with my family a lot in Korea every vacation, and I always carry minifigures. I take pictures in various places such as the beautiful sea, mountains, forests. I’m taking pictures outdoors with nature in the background.

It’s my photography’s characteristic to harmonize various natural objects such as water, fallen leaves, sand, soil, branches, and moss etc. with LEGO. Sometimes I build a LEGO set that is for taking photos.

I usually take pictures with classic head mini-figures (city, mini-figures series). I like to use a combination of various minifigure parts (head, hair, body, leg) to take pictures of figures that fit each situation.
One of the main challenges is that the shooting is done outdoors, so it is heavily affected by the weather.

It is hard to take pictures on rainy or cloudy days. Also, it is hard to put up mini-figures on windy days. It is also hard to makes minifigures stand in soil or sand. It was difficult in the beginning! When balancing minifigures, I adjust the angle of the legs and use LEGO accessories for support.

I use a DSLR camera (Canon EOS 90D) and the lens is an ef-s 18-55mm. I prefer to not edit my photo. I sometimes use only Lightroom.
I will continue to take LEGO photos and I will try to take more original and creative LEGO pictures!
The exclusive photo

I love the caveman, cavewoman figures in series 1 and series 5. So I take a lot of photos of these figures. This picture is taken with them.

I don’t need many equipments when I take photos. I usually bring only minifigures, camera, and some LEGO accessories when I take photos.
The important thing in my photo is the natural background. This photo was taken at a park with moss.

Moss looks like a grass field when taking photos with minifigures. This picture shows a Caveman couple going on a hunt in a forest with spears and bows. They found a flat ground to set up the figures. And adjust their legs and arms to express their natural walking appearance. And my Canon Eos 90D camera is placed on the ground so that it is below or equal to the eyes of the minifigures (low angles).

Thank you to ‘Brickcentral team’ for featuring me! It is honour to me. I am so glad that introduce myself and share my works to global LEGO photo community. I will continue to take many LEGO photo with nature background.
